Nicole Graham,a young mother, and Paris, her daughter, were on normal afternoon horse ride along the beach when all of sudden they sank into a ‘quicksand’ like mud. She first hopped off to help her daughter and the smaller horse onto firmer ground. She was terrified when she returned to her own horse.
Her horse, Astro, was stuck fast in the mud, and the struggle to get him out only made things worse.
Paris ran ahead and called for help, but Nicole stayed and held her horse’s head above water for more than three hours.
To make things worse, the tide was quickly moving in, and Astro faced the prospect of drowning.
Eventual help did arrive, and this animal veterinarian decided that sedating Astro was the best option.
Nicole desperately tried to keep Astro calm throughout this ordeal. She said: ‘It was terrifying. It was also heartbreaking to see my horse exhausted and struggling.
Eventually rescuers did arrive but it took them a while to figure out how to save the horse.
They were in a race against time, as you can see the tide approaching.
At first, they tried digging the horse out but Nicole said ‘We went straight down and under. There was mud everywhere and every time I moved it sucked me back down. It wouldn’t let us go.’
They even had a helicopter on standby, as a very last resort. Thankfully, they were finally able to pull the horse out with a farmer’s tractor with minutes to spare before the water reached Astro.
Astro was a bit dehydrate but other than that he was fine. The vet said that a” lot of horses don’t make it and I think without the owner there the chance of survival would have been a lot lower.”
Wow, that was such an amazing story. Nicole’s love for her horse saved Astro. It’s not everyday you see this.
Share this amazing owner’s love for her animal with everyone you know.
